Module 4 helps students move from raw observations to meaningful statistical summaries. It combines conceptual explanations, mathematical reasoning, visual tools, synthetic datasets, interactive activities, quizzes, and live R Labs.
Topics covered
Students can explore:
- Mean, median, mode, trimmed mean, and geometric mean
- Range, variance, standard deviation, and mean absolute deviation
- Coefficient of variation and relative variability
- Chebyshev’s theorem and the Empirical Rule
- Standardized values and z-scores
- Percentiles, quartiles, and the interquartile range
- Box plots, fences, and potential outliers
- Covariance and Pearson correlation
- Weighted means and grouped-data estimates
- Skewness, kurtosis, and distribution shape
- Professional descriptive-statistics reporting
The module also includes live R execution, allowing students to edit code, calculate statistics, generate tables, and produce graphs directly inside the learning environment. Students can work with downloadable datasets, review guided explanations, complete quizzes, and apply their learning in a final business-focused capstone activity.
