New R Data Starter Pack Now Available

STATLAB Academy has released a new R Data Starter Pack and Quick Start Guide to help students begin working with real data in R.

The downloadable package includes:

  • A validated Canadian macroeconomic dataset
  • A clear data dictionary
  • Official data-source notes
  • A beginner-friendly R starter script
  • A step-by-step illustrated guide for using R
  • Troubleshooting advice for common setup problems

The guide explains how to access R through Posit Cloud or RStudio Desktop, import the dataset, examine variables, calculate descriptive statistics, create charts, and run a simple analysis.

The starter script uses base R and can be run without complicated setup or additional packages. This resource is especially useful when an activity cannot be completed directly within STATLAB’s online environment.

Visit STATLAB Academy and open the Data Resources section to download the files.
